The Society for AIDS Care (SAC) and Kary Ng, singer launched the remembrance ceremony to commemorate World AIDS Day on 1 December at North Atrium, Ground Floor, Olympian City 2 addressing “Universal Access and Human Rights”, the theme of this years World AIDS day.
Ms. Nichole Garnaut, chairperson of the SAC, opened the proceedings with a good news that eight-year tend showed new HIV infections down by 17% around the world. However, the modes of transmission were changing the approach of HIV prevention efforts and caused the prevention work more difficult. She urged the government to protect human rights and attain access for all to HIV prevention, treatment, care and support, as well as to remove laws that discriminate against people living with HIV, women and marginalized groups, to increase resources for supporting the HIV-related services.
Miss Kary Ng emphasised the responsibility of everyone to aware HIV prevention and stop stigma and discriminatory attitudes towards PLWHA, after receiving the certificate of appreciation by SAC Chairperson.
Following the speeches, M.A.C, the major sponsor of the event, donated a cheque of Hong Kong Dollars Thirty Thousand to the SAC for supporting us to sustain our care service upon PLWHA. The event closed with a giant red ribbon puzzle demonstrated by guests of honour to commemorate the people who are HIV infected around the world.
In spite of the Ceremony, SAC volunteer together with our staff distributed red ribbon at HSBC main branch in Central and HSBC Centre at Tai Kok Tsui to show our acceptance and support towards PLWHA.
Last but not least, SAC would like to thank you Mr. Wong Kwok-chung for designing and making 2 glass-art souvenirs for our guests.
