Empowerment mutual help service is a developmental and empowerment project for people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) delivering through participation in voluntary services and mutual help process. It helps to enhance their abilities, self-confidence and self-esteem.
The focus of the program aims to improve their social communication skill through the process of being a volunteer, attending skill training session and participation in home visit and other voluntary work. In addition, part of their work includes conducting AIDS education program in schools and other community settings. The ultimate goal of this project is to help our trained PLWHA helpers take better charge of their own life by helping others. These intensive participations positively help them interact with the outside world.
Our comprehensive empowerment mutual program includes simple home cleansing, home repair, computer training, language teaching, first aid training, handcraft, cooking and many more according to the various needs of our service users. In order to facilitate PLWHA to build up positive living, trained PLWHA volunteers act as good middlemen to provide care and concern to the others who need the support.
The other aspect of this program is to encourage PLWHA to act as trainers to promote community education to educate members of the society in hope to reduce discrimination in our society. This education process significantly promotes normalization, breaks down fear and stigma, and challenges prejudicial attitudes. |
