We have provided HIV-related educational training and development programs to the mainstream non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and hospital staff since 1995. We have already built up a strong network with most public and private hospitals in Hong Kong. Our targeted audiences are healthcare professionals and service workers. We emphasize on capacity building programs which help them to integrate HIV knowledge into their existing services.
We have launched “Hong Kong-China AIDS Training Program” since December 2006. The aim is to encourage the exchange and collaboration of the HIV-related organizations in both Mainland and Hong Kong, and to strengthen the mutual support network for fighting against this epidemic.
To promote public acceptance towards people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA), we organize fundraising charity events and educational exhibitions to raise public awareness and to promote the prevention of HIV/AIDS. These activities also help to raise vital funds for sustaining our direct care services for the PLWHA. On the other hand, members were encouraged to hand make red ribbon AIDS knots as a token of appreciation for those who supported our service.
To empower teenagers better understand and confront the HIV/AIDS epidemic, increase the HIV/AIDS among teenagers and encourage the reduction of discrimination towards people living with HIV/AIDS, The Society for AIDS Care creates a new school program “HEY!” (HIV/AIDS Education for Youth) for teenagers from October 2009 to June 2010. “HEY!” is a comprehensive educational and interactive program, which is facilitated and implemented by trained and experienced staff of SAC.
