AIDS Charity Walk

The world’s first case of AIDS was diagnosed in 1981. Four years later, the first AIDS Walk was commenced in Los Angeles in an effort to raise funds for people living with HIV/AIDS (PLHIV) in the community. AIDS Walk was then developed into an international fundraising campaign for HIV/AIDS awareness in various cities around the globe.

Over the years, millions of people from more than 75 cities have participated in local AIDS Walk events across North American and Australia. Celebrities, including Hilary Duff, Nick Jonas, Michael Urie, Christa B. Allen, Sophia Bush, Jason Wu, have taken steps to help promote the good cause in action by participating in the Walk. Around the world, AIDS Walk takes place in iconic landmarks, such as West Hollywood in LA, Central Park in New York City and the Great Wall in Beijing.

SAC launched the first AIDS Walk in Hong Kong at the Peak in 2002. This fun-filled fundraising campaign held annually afterwards. To further promote AIDS Walk, each participant will receive a mask, which is used as a symbol of identity protection, and be invited to wear it during the walk to empathize with PLHIV for the stress and burden from hidden identity due to fear for discrimination, and therefore to reduce stigma and discrimination in the community.

World AIDS Day

World AIDS Day is designated on 1 Dec every year by the World Health Organization in 1988 to raise public awareness of HIV/AIDS. With different themes each year, governments and organizations around the world would organize related events to raise awareness of HIV/AIDS pandemic on World AIDS Day.

We have held different campaigns in World AIDS Day, including “I promise, I will not discriminate against People Living with HIV/AIDS” Photo Exhibition and “RED Day” campaign, to encourage wider public awareness on AIDS, eliminate discrimination against people living with HIV/AIDS and embrace them with positive attitude. In the “RED Day” Campaign, you can dress in RED to show your support. Your contribution is invaluable especially for those who are fighting against this severe illness alone.
